Our Story

They say the love that lasts is the one you never see coming. One day a person you've known for years suddenly shines in a different light and everything just falls into place. It all comes naturally because you were friends first. There's no need for false pretenses or a desire to change ourselves or one another because you accepted each other for who you are years before. In 2019, after years of friendship, a collective group of friends let a sigh of “finally!” as Lauren Collins and Scott Abbey pulled their heads out of their bottoms and realized the love and acceptance they had been looking for in life was right in front of them. They learned what friends and family had known all along: the two were perfect for each other.

After meeting at a barbecue hosted by the bride's brother and sister-in-law, Lauren and Scott shared an instant connection that led to an easy friendship. The two found themselves at ease, able to speak openly to each other. They spent the next several years dancing around each other, meeting at AJ Gators, catching up over drinks, or sending text messages with “If you go, I'll go” when discussing party invitations. During this time Lauren and Scott remained “just friends” and dated other people. When Lauren started paramedic school it became part of Scott's life to receive panic attack text messages from Lauren, asking questions and looking for advice for the skills and testing of the paramedic program. Scott remained gracious and helpful, providing the much-needed support and help Lauren needed during that difficult time. There was a brief period during this time when Lauren and Scott asked “what if?”, but the stars had not aligned yet. The two still needed to find themselves before they could find each other. They remained friends for two more years until Scott asked Lauren, “Do you want to go to a Harry Potter concert?”

So, in November of 2019, they had their first date, and by December the two finally took the leap and began their relationship. While most relationships would buckle and break by being placed under stress within the first few months of a relationship, Lauren and Scott blossomed. Only three months into their time together the world was hit with the pandemic known as COVID-19. As a result, for the safety of Lauren's family, Scott invited Lauren to move in. The pair were placed in quarantine multiple times over the first few months of the pandemic. Being forced to be around a loved one 24/7 for two weeks at a time would drive any couple to frustration, but Laruen and Scott fell easily into a routine, finding each other's presence to be healing in that stresful time.

The summer of 2020 brought the sentence “I'm gonna marry you one day” and “but you should probably meet my parents first”. They took a trip to Floyd in July to do just that. After Lauren fell in love with Scott's family in addition to him, Lauren posed the question of “So, where's my ring?”. So, the two went shopping. After ordering a custom engagement ring (becuase Lauren has champagne tastes on a beer budget) Lauren and Scott made their engagement official.

And that is how you've come to find yourself on this website. Lauren and Scott are to be married October 29, 2021 and they are looking forward to spending the day celebrating their love with their closest friends and family.
